Tip #4: Yoga and Meditation
Published: June 2021
The gentle movement of the body combined with controlled breath work, encourages good physical health which impacts positively on mental health as both are inextricably connected. A holistic approach to wellbeing.
Connecting this to nature and truly being at one with nature in this way can only make you smile and bring joy!
Moves to try:
- Sun salutation - Reach up with the arms, swoop them down as you bend forward and hold. Pull the tummy in as you unfold to standing and repeat.
- Tree pose - Become a tree by balancing on one leg, tucking the other into the calf or thigh. Raise your arms over your head and out like the branches of a tree.
- Caterpillar - Sit with legs outstretched, knees slightly bent. Bend forward over your legs reaching towards your feet.
- Butterfly - Sitting up straight, draw the soles of your feet together, knees drop open to the sides.
- Lie or sit in meditation - close down the eyes, breath in and out through the nose. Count 10 breaths in and out starting at 10. If you lose count, begin again at 10. Soften your muscles, relax. Begin to listen to the sounds around you. Notice the feel of the sun/wind on your skin, the ground beneath you.
- Pause.
- Wiggle fingers and toes, slowly open the eyes.
- Smile at the sun.

Take a blanket. Go out into the garden, or open space - your park or playground and practise some easy yoga moves with your children. I've put some ideas in the captions above so you can have a look there.
When you've finished your yoga moves close down your eyes for a couple of minutes of meditation, just deep breathing in through the nose, and out through the nose.
This will all help strengthen your body and calm your mind. Take a deep breath in...
and Namaste.
