Post-traumatic stress disorder can look very different in children than in adults, and in a classroom setting it's often mistaken for behaviour problems, inattention, or defiance. A child who has experienced trauma may seem switched off, easily startled, or prone to sudden outbursts — responses that make sense as survival strategies, even when they're disruptive to learning.

In this film, Dr Siân Williams shares practical guidance for teachers on how to recognise the signs, respond with confidence, and create the kind of calm, predictable environment that helps traumatised children feel safe enough to learn.
