Advice from a father on getting a diagnosis
When your child is diagnosed with Autism often parents and families can feel devastated, fearful of the unknown journey that lies ahead. In this short clip, Usman gives what he considers the most precious piece of advice for fathers (and any parent or carer) in life together with a child living with additional needs.
In this film, Usman talks about his approach to the experience as a father caring for a child living on the Autism Spectrum. This is part of our longer film where the team talk to 3 fathers about the challenges they have faced, the reality of the day-to-day, things they have learned along the way and where they have turned to look for support. Transcript of video "Usman and the quest for Happiness"
The end game is happiness. Okay?
And what a father then must do is to not let go of that quest for happiness.
You can't say, oh, well, it's an Autistic child.
So therefore, my vision of the future of the quest for happiness has been put on hold or abandoned.
Do not abandon your quest for happiness.
That's my final word.
I think.
