In this film, survivors speak candidly about how that experience has stayed with them — in their bodies, their sleep, their ability to feel safe — and what it has meant to try to make sense of something so devastating. Journalist and psychologist Siân Williams and consultant clinical psychologist Dr David Trickey explain how trauma affects the developing brain and nervous system, and why everyday sights, sounds, or smells can suddenly collapse the distance between the present and the original event. Understanding these responses - not as weakness or disorder, but as the mind and body doing exactly what they were built to do - is the first step towards recovery." taxonomy: category: - 'Mental Health' tag: - Trauma - PTSD type: - Video contributor: - 'Dr Sian Williams' - 'Dr David Trickey' - 'Ronit Knoble' --- # Trauma in children [ Trauma ](https://nipinthebud.trilbyhost.com/results/tag:Trauma) [ PTSD ](https://nipinthebud.trilbyhost.com/results/tag:PTSD) [ ![Nip in the Bud](https://nipinthebud.trilbyhost.com/user/themes/nitb/images/logos/round-logo.png) ](https://nipinthebud.trilbyhost.com/about-us "About Nip in the Bud") ![Dr David Trickey](https://nipinthebud.trilbyhost.com/user/pages/06.about-us/02.authors-and-experts/dr-david-trickey/doctor-david-trickey.jpg) Speaker [Dr David Trickey](https://nipinthebud.trilbyhost.com/about-us/authors-and-experts/dr-david-trickey)expert ![Dr Sian Williams](https://nipinthebud.trilbyhost.com/user/pages/06.about-us/02.authors-and-experts/dr-sian-williams/dr-sian-williams.jpg) Speaker [Dr Sian Williams](https://nipinthebud.trilbyhost.com/about-us/authors-and-experts/dr-sian-williams)speaker Duration: 0h 10m 10s Published: January 2023 Produced and Directed by: [Ronit Knoble](https://nipinthebud.trilbyhost.com/about-us/authors-and-experts/ronit-knoble) For the young people who witnessed the Grenfell Tower fire, the trauma didn't end when the flames went out.
